Atypically

Our Story

Atypically was born from a simple desire: to help parents find timely, expert support for their neurodiverse children. Founded by Ben, who blends professional insight, from 20 years experience working across the digital landscape, with personal experience as the parent of an Autistic son, Atypically addresses the growing challenge of lengthy NHS waiting lists. Ben also holds a CPD Accredited Certification in the Treatment and Management of Additional Needs Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Ben's vision is to bridge the gap, connecting families with leading ADHD and Autism assessors nationwide. We understand the urgency and stress parents face, and we're committed to providing a swift, reliable path to private ADHD and Autism assessments.

With Atypically, families gain access to a network of specialists tailored to their unique needs, ensuring every child receives the attention and understanding they deserve. We're here to support you every step of the way, offering clarity and hope for your child's future.

What do we do?

Atypically helps parents to get their children seen by trusted, accredited private ADHD and Autism assessors as quickly as possible. By working with leading providers of neurodiversity assessments, Atypically can help you to find reasonably priced private assessments, which follow the NICE guidelines, for a range of challenges your child may be facing; from ADHD to ASD.

We want to spread the word that there is an alternative to waiting on the NHS lists, which can take a very long time, and for far less than you might think.

Once you ask for our help, Atypically will swiftly match you with the best available assessor for your child's needs, often resulting in an initial appointment booking in as little as 10 days.

While our focus is helping families with children, we can also connect adults with qualified private neurodiversity assessors. Contact us for more information.

Use the Atypically Free ADHD & Autism Screening Tool

Our free screening tool is not a full assessment, but it will give you an indication, based on potential traits that your child exhibits, of whether a full professional ADHD or Autism assessment is something that they may benefit from. It is a valuable first step and will give you some insight into what to be aware of as a parent.

Skip the waiting lists

With NHS waiting lists now taking up to 2 years in some areas for a final diagnosis, now is the time to get your child the help they need. By going private, you can cut the waiting time down to a few weeks instead and it it doesn't cost as much as you might think!

Get in touch now

Private autism or ADHD assessments typically take 2 to 12 weeks from initial enquiry to diagnosis. These assessments are conducted by qualified professionals and follow the same diagnostic criteria used by the NHS. We can help you to get your initial appointment in as little as 10 days.

Let us know what you need and we will put you in touch with the right team for your child's needs.

Right to Choose vs Private Assessments
Parents often ask us: “What’s the difference between a private assessment and Right to Choose?”

Both options are valid. The best choice depends on your family’s circumstances, budget, and urgency.

Private Assessments

Families pay for the assessment themselves. This usually guarantees very fast access (days or weeks rather than months or years) and can be arranged through services like Atypically.

Right to Choose Assessments

Funded by the NHS, but families still have choice in selecting an independent provider. Waiting times are often shorter than local NHS services but may not be as immediate as private routes, normally months rather than days or weeks and in a lot of case up to a year.

FAQs

Our assessments are carried out by assessors who are the right fit for you.

We only work with assessors who work to the highest standards. We only work with assessors who ensure that all assessments are overseen by qualified Psychiatrists, who have oversight of all reports and diagnoses.

The process varies between ADHD and Autism (ASD). Both will entail an initial fact-finding conversation and the sharing of information about the child who requires the assessment. There will then be a number of meetings with the child to form any diagnosis.

In some instances, the assessors may need further information from school teachers or GPs to help them to fully understand the bigger picture. They will discuss this with you as you go through the process.
